Multifloral Honey May Help Protect Skin Stem Cells from UV Ageing
07/05/2025 • by The RAM Institute
Researchers have found that multifloral honey may help protect skin stem cells from UV-induced ageing, highlighting its potential for future regenerative applications.
Published in Antioxidants, the study found that pre-treatment with a 1% multifloral honey solution increased the expression of stem cell-associated genes, reduced markers of cellular senescence and enhanced antioxidant capacity following UV exposure. In fibroblasts, honey also increased the expression of genes associated with cellular stress protection and hyaluronan synthesis.
The researchers suggest that honey’s bioactive compounds may help preserve the regenerative capacity of skin cells under oxidative stress. However, they note that further research is needed before these findings can be translated into therapeutic or cosmetic applications.
