Study Evaluates Polynucleotides for Steroid-Induced Depressed Lesions
07/05/2025 • by The RAM Institute
A new clinical study has found that polynucleotide (PN) injections may improve depressed skin lesions that develop following intralesional corticosteroid treatment.
Published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, the study evaluated patients who developed localised skin depressions after corticosteroid injections. Treatment with intradermal PN was associated with significant improvements in lesion depth and overall appearance, with high levels of patient satisfaction and no serious treatment-related adverse events.
The authors suggest that PN may promote tissue repair and extracellular matrix remodelling, helping to restore tissue volume in steroid-induced skin atrophy. However, they note that larger controlled studies are needed to confirm the findings and establish optimal treatment protocols.
