Systematic Review Synthesises Evidence for PN and PDRN

A new systematic review of randomised clinical trials has evaluated the use of polynucleotides (PN) and polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) for skin rejuvenation, postoperative scar prevention and wound healing.
Published in Cureus, the review included seven randomised clinical trials involving 183 participants. Four studies investigated skin rejuvenation, one examined scar prevention following surgery and two assessed wound-healing applications.
Across the studies, PN- and PDRN-based treatments were associated with improvements in wrinkles, scar quality, wound healing and patient satisfaction. The most consistent findings were reported in wound care, where PDRN accelerated re-epithelialisation and reduced healing time compared with control treatments. No serious treatment-related adverse events were reported.
However, the authors noted that the available evidence remains limited by small sample sizes, varied treatment protocols and inconsistent outcome measures. They conclude that larger, well-designed randomised trials are needed to establish the optimal indications, formulations and treatment protocols for PN- and PDRN-based therapies.
